Outcome of Food Wise Talks
1. From May 2013 to May 2020, 123 food wise talks including seminars, training sessions and workshops under Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign have been held, with attendance of over 11,400 headcount of attendees.
2. The objective of the food wise talks is to introduce Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign to the public and stakeholders; promote food wise culture; encourage food waste reduction at source; and introduce good practices to reduce and recycle food waste in daily life.
3. More than 5,200 completed questionnaires were received from the attendees. The key summary of responses are:
- Over 80% of the respondents indicated that the talks could deepen their recognition of the problem of food waste in Hong Kong.
- Over 80% of the respondents indicated the talks could deepen their knowledge in reducing food waste in daily life.
- About 80% of the respondents indicated the talks could increase their understanding of Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign.
- Over 80% of the respondents indicated they were likely to be conscious to reduce food waste and be food wise in the future.

Outcome of roving exhibitions
1. From September 2014 to May 2020, 22 roving exhibitions under "Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign" have been conducted.
2. The objective of the roving exhibitions is to bring the message of food waste reduction to the community and encourage the public to reduce food waste at source.
3. Big Waster mascot appears in the roving exhibitions. As of May 2020, the exhibitions have attracted over 30,000 headcount of visitors.
4. The roving exhibitions feature display panels with food waste reduction tips and also allow the public to share their food wise wishes and opinions on the exhibition board. As of May 2020, roving exhibitions had collected over 3,600 food wise wishes and opinions from public. Selected food wise wishes and opinions have been uploaded to https://www.foodwisehk.gov.hk/en/foodwise-message.php.
5. Over 1,500 completed questionnaires were collected. The key summary of responses are:

Over 80% of the respondents had heard of “Big Waster” or “Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign” before visiting our exhibition.

Over 90% of the respondents indicated that they knew better about food wise culture for reducing food waste after visiting our exhibition.

Over 90% of the respondents indicated that they were willing to participate in and encourage the others to promote and practice food wise culture after visiting our exhibition.

About 95% of the respondents indicated that they supported “Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign” after visiting our exhibition.

Training Workshops for Food Wise Eateries Scheme
In order to let the Food & Beverage Trade and Hotels sectors to understand more about the Food Wise Eateries Scheme and to allow front-line staff to learn and share on how to implement the Scheme in the eatery, 6 workshops have been held in Hong Kong Productivity Council Building (2 times), Leighton Hill Community Hall, Sheung Tak Community Hall, Kennedy Town Community Complex and Kwai Shing Community Hall from December 2015 to October 2016. The workshops provided detail information of the Scheme and practical tips in food waste reduction. Participants of the Scheme were invited to share their experience in implementation of the Scheme. Food donation organisations were also invited to share on how to donate surplus food and precautions in food donation.

Big Waster returns to HK Sevens to promote waste reduction
Big Waster returned to the Hong Kong Sevens this year to encourage the public to fully support green measures taken at the event venue and to "go green" by adopting the "use less, waste less" habit while enjoying the spectacular tournament. The event organiser continued to use the green measures adopted last year, such as providing additional recycling bins to facilitate waste separation; arranging the collection of recyclables like plastic, food waste, glass bottles and waste paper for recycling; and collaborating with food caterers to arrange the donation of surplus food to reduce food wastage.

Big Waster returns to HK Sevens to promote waste reduction
Big Waster returned to the Hong Kong Sevens this year to encourage the public to fully support green measures taken at the event venue and to "go green" by adopting the "use less, waste less" habit while enjoying the spectacular tournament. The event organiser continued to use the green measures adopted last year, such as providing additional recycling bins to facilitate waste separation; arranging the collection of recyclables like plastic, food waste, glass bottles and waste paper for recycling; and collaborating with food caterers to arrange the donation of surplus food to reduce food wastage.

Eastern District Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign Sharing Session
Organised by Environmental Protection Department, supporting by Greeners Action and Friends of the Earth, a sharing session was held on 21 March 2015 at the Aldrich Bay Community Hall to brief the participating residents from the Eastern District the Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign and provide a platform for the guest speakers and participants to exchange views on “food wise” culture and means. At the sharing session, Ms CHAN Oi-kwan MH, the chairlady of the Working Group on Environmental Protection and Greening under the Food, Environment and Hygiene Committee of the Eastern District Council Committees firstly gave a welcoming speech. Mr. TK Ng, the Senior Environmental Protection Officer from Environmental Protection Department introduced the Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign. Mr. Angus Ho, the Executive Director of the Greeners Action, introduced the means of reducing food waste and the guest speaker, Mr. Chao Shing-kie MH shared the food waste reduction and recycling experiences at Heng Fa Chuen . The Eco-teacher Ms Kam shared the recipes and tips of using the trim waste into delicious dishes and how to make salty citrus and green cleaners in the last session of the event.

The Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign was awarded Excellence Award at the HKMA/TVB Awards for Marketing Excellence 2014 in recognition of the campaign's success in taking root in the community and promoting a "food wise" culture in Hong Kong. It is also the first Government promotional campaign to receive the award.

Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign to promote food waste reduction at Kwun Tong District
The Food Wise Hong Kong (FWHK) Campaign will stage 10 roving exhibitions in various districts starting from September, aiming to bring the message of food waste reduction to the community and encourage the public to reduce food waste at source. The first roving exhibition was held at the G/F, Telford Plaza I from 18 to 21 September, featuring display panels with food waste reduction tips and highlighting the efforts and achievements of organisations from various sectors such as housing estates, schools, food premises and food donation organisations. Apart from the exhibitions, the Campaign will also organise district activities and join with housing estates to encourage residents to join the Food Wise Ambassador Scheme and other waste reduction activities. A launch event for the roving exhibition and related district activities, officiated by the Secretary for the Environment, the Chairman of the Kwun Tong District Council and other guests, was held on 18 September at the Telford Plaza.

Hotels to promote food waste reduction in their restaurants
As part of efforts under the Food Wise Hong Kong (FWHK) Campaign, more than 30 hotels have pledged to launch an initiative to disseminate the food waste reduction message in their restaurants starting from Mother's Day (May 11), and encourage everyone to cherish their food on this meaningful day. The initiative, a collaboration between the Environmental Protection Department and the Hong Kong Hotels Association (HKHA), was unveiled at a FWHK publicity event for Mother's Day at the Royal Pacific Hotel and Towers on May 10. The participating hotels would be helping to launch the initiative by displaying Food Wise menu stands displaying food waste reduction messages and a "Big Waster" graphic at their food outlets. In this way diners would be politely reminded to reduce food waste.

Environment Big Waster joins Sevens scrum
Big Waster entered the scrum at Rugby Sevens 2014 at Hong Kong stadium. The mascot “Big Waster” met rugby fans to promote waste reduction and recycling. Recycling bins and posters were put out around the stadium to encourage waste recycling, and arrangements were made to donate excess food.

Public called on to avoid food wastage and promote community care this Christmas
Big Waster visited different venues (Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Statue Square at Central and pedestrian zone at Mongkok) during Christmas (on 22, 24 and 25 December 2013) to remind the public to cherish food and not become another Big Waster while celebrating Christmas and the New Year. SEN joined some volunteers to take part in the Bread Angel food recycling activity
Taking part in the Bread Angel food recycling activity, the Secretary for the Environment joined some volunteers in the evening of 20 December to collect unsold bread from a bakery for delivery to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Ho Tung Home for the Elderly in Tsz Wan Shan. The Secretary said that this meaningful activity not only avoided the disposal of surplus edible food, but also offered assistance to those in need in society, thereby preventing food wastage and building a caring community at the same time.

Food Wise Hong Kong Steering Committee First Anniversary Ceremony
The Food Wise Hong Kong (FWHK) Steering Committee had enjoyed a successful first year of operation and launched the FWHK Campaign with the support and effort of Committee members, relevant sectors and members of the public, bringing a Food Wise culture to the community. At the first anniversary ceremony held on 17 December at Discovery Park, Tsuen Wan, signees of the Food Wise Charter were presented with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their active participation in food waste reduction, stories of food waste reduction were broadcast and Big Waster went on stage with the theme song’s rapper to remind the public to cherish food and reduce food waste. Moreover, with the approach of Christmas and the New Year, the Secretary for the Environment and Big Waster paid visits to a supermarket and an eatery in a shopping centre to promote the FWHK Campaign, and called on members of the public to cherish food while celebrating the festival.

Call on Members of the Public to Avoid Food Wastage during Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations
The Environmental Protection Department encourages every family to cherish food and avoid wasting it while celebrating the festival. Promotional booths were set up at pedestrian zones in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay on 14 and 15 September 2013 to call on the public to avoid generating food waste during the Mid-Autumn Festival and to donate excess food which is still fit for consumption to food recycling organisations. On the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival (18 September 2013), the Secretary for the Environment paid a visit to Lantern Wonderland at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay and took the opportunity to call on members of the public to avoid food waste generation while celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. The "Big Waster" have also visited different venues (Victoria Park, Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Sha Tin Park) on 18, 19 and 20 September 2013 to remind the public cherish food and reduce food waste.
